Many Cant Vote In Akunkongo-Abempingo

Some hundreds of eligible electorates in the Akunkongo-Abempingo Electoral Area in the Kassena- Nankana East Municipality in the UpperEast Region will miss the opportunity to participate in the forth-coming district assembly, as effort to get their votes transferred from the Bolgatanga and Chiana- Paga constituencies has proved futile.

Per the electoral laws of Ghana, nothing can be done about their plight until a transfer opportunity is given to them after the district assembly or any general election.

The electorates who spoke to the DAILY GUIDE in separate interviews are blaming Electoral Commission (EC) officials in the Kassena-Nankana East Municipality for trying to punish the people of the area for a confusion that erupted ahead of the 2012 general elections and subsequent legal action that followed.

They again pointed accusing fingers at the EC for disallowing them to transfer their votes from the Bolgatanga and Chiana-Paga constituencies to the Navrongo Central constituency during the recent opening of the voters register across the country.

One of the contestants campaigning for the Akunkongo-Abempingo Electoral Area, Clement Akanpaga, in an interview told the DAILY GUIDE that “the situation in which the affected persons find themselves is unfortunate and I hope it will soon be addressed after the district assembly elections so that they can participate in subsequent elections in the country.
