PHOTOS: Yamoah Ponko Wins Best MCE For 2014

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ejisu Juaben Municipal Assembly, Afrifa Yamoah Ponko has been awarded by the West African Magazine for being the best MCE out of the 216 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Executives across the country, in the year 2014.

The Annual Scheme Award, instituted six years ago, which seeks to recognize corporate entities and individuals whose achievements contribute strategically to Africa’s development bestowed the award on Hon. Afrifa Yamoah Ponko at a colourful ceremony in Accra on Thursday.

According to Dr. Dee Otibu-Asare the West African International Magazine’s Chief Executive, “by virtue of your style of governance and numerous projects your Assembly initiated and executed, our Award Selection Board, after survey, has nominated Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly as the Municipal assembly of the year 2014”.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Yamoah Ponko praised the organizers of the awards for instituting an award scheme that recognizes hard work and patriotism.

He also dedicated the award to President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Hon. Julius Debrah, and all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE’s) in Ghana.

The Ejisu-Juaben Municipality under the leadership of Yamoah-Ponkoh has recorded tremendous improvement in infrastructure, health, education and security among others.

The Juaben Government Hospital proud itself with the second Accident and Emergency Center after the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital whilst a 300-bed Children Ward is also under construction.

Another edifice, about 80 per cent complete is also under construction at the Ejisu Government Hospital to be used for laboratory, Ear, Nose and Throat center.

Besides, a police complex will soon be inaugurated at Ejisu whilst another project, construction of 18-unit police quarters starts in earnest. The assembly in its effort to extend water coverage spent 17,000 Ghana cedis each on the six water projects for communities like, Krofrom, Ofoase, Adako-Jachie, Asuosanso and Adumasa.

Residents of Fumesua, Kokobra and Kyerekrom recently had something to smile at when the about 1.8 kilometer road was tarred. A similar project Adako Jachie-Tikrom road is under construction.

Other recipients of the awards were Dannidams Pharmaceuticals for being the best Pharmarcuetical Company of the year. Dr. Akanayo, best herbal preparation of the year. Joy Daddy Bitters the best "bitters" producers of the year.

Also, Ideal College took away an award for the best Private Senior High School of the year. Amenfiman Rural Bank, Best Rural Bank of the year and Imperial Transport Company limited won the best private co of the year 2014.

As part of the awards, the magazine dedicated a publication to the honor of recipients by publishing profile and their contributions to the economic development of West Africa.
