A Kenyan Member of Parliament (MP) and three of his aides have been shot dead by some unknown assailants in the country’s capital Nairobi.
The Police have described the incident as a “well planned” attack.
The BBC reports that the MP, George Muchai, was driving home through the capital city when his vehicle collided with another vehicle at a roundabout.
The assailants reportedly shot the four; Mr. Muchai, his two bodyguards and his driver at close range. All the four died at the scene.
Police said the assailants made away with a briefcase and the bodyguards’ pistols.
Mr Muchai was a Member of Parliament for Kenya’s governing Jubilee Coalition and was elected for the first time two years ago.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Raila Odinga has condemned the attack.
He was however quick to add that it was a result of the wider insecurity in Kenya.“Our country is bleeding and an atmosphere of fear and hopelessness is spreading from the unresolved murders and deaths,” Mr Odinga said in a statement
Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta was also shocked by the attack.
He described Mr. Muchai as a “true servant of the people”
Militant groups have been launching attacks in the country in recent times.
In September 2013, the country’s capital suffered an attack which led to the death of a former member of Ghana’s Council of State, Kofi Awoonor .
He was among those killed in an attack at the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi.
He was in Kenya as a participant in the Storymoja Hay Festival, a four-day celebration of writing, thinking and storytelling, at which he was due to perform on the evening of his death.
