Farmer Jailed 16 Years For Defilement

The Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Fredrick Tetteh has sentenced a farmer to 16 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling an 11- year old girl.

Kwaku Oware, 35, pleaded not guilty to the crime but the court ruled otherwise.

Police Inspector Manasseh Obimpe said the incident happened at Bankame, a farming community, in the Asante-Akim South District.

The mother of the victim, Afia Azakpe, on October 6, last year, observed a change in the gaiety of the small girl and decided to find out what had gone wrong.

The prosecution said initially, she was reluctant but after some prodding she told the mother of the traumatic sexual experience, she had been taken through by the convict.

Multiple bruises were found in her vagina upon physical examination and a formal report was consequently made to the police.

Police Inspector Obimpe said doctors, who treated her in a signed report confirmed that she had indeed been defiled.
