Confusion Rocks Ashanti NDC

NANA ASARE Bediako, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya, has threatened to step down if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) continues to be in turmoil in the Ashanti Region.

He said there had not been peace in the NDC in the region in recent times, which he says is a great worry to him and other loyal party members.

The dejected DCE alleged that there exists a fracas between Samuel Sarpong, the Ashanti Regional Minister and his deputy, Joseph Yammin.

According to him, the rift between the two top men was having adverse effects on the party in the region.

Speaking on Nhyira FM in Kumasi, he said he was afraid that the animosity between the two could thwart the NDC’s efforts in next year’s general elections.

Nana Asare Bediako noted that his prime wish as DCE was to work assiduously to help President Mahama win a second term as president in 2016.

He said without peace between Messrs Sarpong and Yammin, his (Bediako’s) wish for the NDC in the next polls would be a mirage.

The Atwima Nwabiagya DCE therefore threatened to quit his job if the two personalities failed to smoke the peace pipe.

“I will resign as DCE of Atwima Nwabiagya if the fracas between Sarpong and Yammin continues. Their open brawl is disgracing the NDC and also destroying our chance of winning more votes for the party in 2016. My wish is for the NDC to win the 2016 polls but what is happening will serve as a stumbling block to our wish,” he said.

Nana Asare Bediako was angry about the decision of the supporters of the two party gurus to openly wash their dirty linen in the public.

In a related development, Frank Osei Mensah, ex-Ashanti Regional NDC chairman, has charged supporters of Samuel Sarpong and Yammin to cease fire.

Speaking on Nhyira FM, he said the animosity between the two men could affect the NDC votes in the 2016 polls.

He warned that if the NDC’s votes in the Ashanti region are reduced to 20 percent then the ruling political party should forget about the 2016 polls.

Mr. Mensah stated that the NDC would eventually be the loser if the two men refused to smoke the peace pipe.

Meanwhile, when DAILY GUIDE confronted Messrs Sarpong and Yammin over the issue, they rubbished it saying, “It is false.”

The two, who attended a public function together, said there was no animosity between them so the public should treat the rumour with contempt.
