The National Chairman and Founder of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Agyenim Boateng, alias Gyataba, has described the national congress of the party slated for this Saturday at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi as a hoax.
According to him, should ‘’the so-called congress take place’’, the party would allow the laws of the land to take their course and declare the elections null and void.
Nana Agyenim Boateng, who holds an honorary doctorate degree, was at the Daily Graphic’s head office in Accra yesterday to swiftly react to a political story carried by the paper headlined “UFP goes to congress. . .in spite of rift on Monday.”
According to him, “the so-called congress will never come off at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi as the three people calling for the congress have been suspended indefinitely from the party.”
He said to ensure that the “so-called congress” would never take place, Mr Akwasi Addai, aka Odike, the 2012 presidential candidate of the party, had been served with a writ of summons to appear before an Accra Fast Track Court yesterday for holding himself up as an active member of the party.
Nana Agyenim Boateng said the UFP had also written to the Electoral Commission (EC) reminding them not to deal with Mr Addai since he had been suspended from the party indefinitely.
He further explained that the Deputy Secretary of the party, Mr Abdul Razak, had been dismissed for wrongful behaviour.
Background
The Daily Graphic reported in its Monday, February 9, 2015 issue that the UFP would on February 14, 2015, organise its National Delegates Congress at the Jubilee Park, Kumasi, to elect new executive members, as well as its flag bearer to lead the party into the December 2016 general election.
According to a statement signed by a General Secretary, Mr Samuel Bekoe Owusu, the election of new national officers, as well as a flag bearer, will be on the same day.
However, earlier, the Daily Graphic had reported the indefinite suspension of Mr Samuel Bekoe Owusu, the party’s General Secretary, and Mr Kennedy Saku, National Youth Organiser.
This was contained in a statement issued by the party in Accra and signed by its acting National Chairman, Mr Stephen Forson.
According to Mr Forson, the decision was taken after the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the UFP met in Accra on Monday last week to chart the way forward and resolve all outstanding issues.
He stated that Nana Agyenim Boateng was asked to chair activities of the party.
