NPP Flooded VRA With Engineers Who Had Reached Their Retirement Age

The Eastern Regional Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Bismark Tawiah Boateng has stated that President Mahama’s inability to dismiss “pensioner” engineers from the Volta River Authority is to be blamed for the erratic supply of power.

He further accused the engineers working with VRA of being sympathetic to the cause of the New Patriotic Party by insinuating that when former President Kufour was in power, they did all they could within their remit to stabilize power.

When Kufour was in power and was issuing proceed on leave letters, all the workers sat up and did the right thing. But when the late former president Atta Mills took over and treated all workers with compassion just like his successor is doing, some pensioner engineers at VRA don’t appreciate it but are sinking the nation low”, he said.

Confused about the whole scenario, he wondered how the same batch of engineers managed to stabilize the power situation under former President Kufour but have done little in current times to remedy the situation. He called on President Mahama to stamp his authority and ensure the “pensioner engineers” don’t make his administration unpopular.

Those pensioner engineers are still at service and getting promotion till date although they have exhausted their tenure. They are the reason the NPP believe should they come to power today, they can solve the ‘dumsor’ problem”, he alleged in an interview on Peacefm during Tuesday's Midday News.
