I Have Suffered 3 Assassination Attempts CaselyHayford

A member of pressure group, Occupy Ghana, Sydney Casely-Hayford has disclosed that he has suffered three (3) assassination attempts on his life for being a critic of the government policies.

The attempts on his life, he said were carried out by people he believes are not happy with the level of criticisms from the pressure group.

The Financial analyst who shot to fame following his analysis and criticism of various financial policies of government disclosed at a CIMG meeting held in Accra Wednesday that the assassination attempts were part of ploys to intimidate him and other members of the group for almost always opposing policies of the government.

The attempts on his life, he said, would not silence him from criticizing the government on financial matters and encouraged participators of the conference to ‘always free their minds on financial issues.’

The group which consists of various professionals has been a thorn in the flesh of the ruling administration with members and sympathizers of the ruling NDC party, almost always going after them.

General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has had cause to warn members of the party and government communicators especially to accept some of the criticisms from the party describing them as helpful.

In November 2014, Sydney Caseley-Hayford told the second series of the group’s anti-corruption forum in Accra that members including Dr. Esi Ansah, Assistant Professor of Ashesi University and legal practitioner Egbert Faibille Jnr, have suffered anonymous attacks.

Caseley-Hayford said Dr. Ansah, who spoke at OccupyGhana’s forum on corruption had her home raided and her mobile phones, laptops, cash and personal properties taken away.

Casely-Hayford also stated that his own vehicle, as well as that of Faibille Jnr was tampered with – as situation he said they both got to know about while driving.

He said: “Yesterday Dr. Esi Ansah was raided. All her phones, laptops, cash and personal properties were taken away.”

“Last night on my way to a meeting, the left front wheel of my tire came off and flew away. I have never removed a tire.”

According to him, Faibille Jnr also had six bolts on the tire of his car loosened and had to fix it at an auto mechanic shop before he could make it to a meeting Thursday morning.

He wondered if the levels of car tampering and attacks were a coincidence or “somebody obviously doesn’t like us.”

He however did not indicate if he had reported the assassination attempts on his life to the police.
