We Have Enough Fuel - Police Service

The Ghana Police Service has debunked the assertion that they were not able to transport the eight Nigerian pirates arrested in January to court due to fuel shortage.

A Police Sergeant, Victor Dosu on Wednesday, informed the Accra Central Magistrate Court, where the case is being tried that the police had difficulty in transporting the accused to court due to the unavailability of fuel.

However, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cephas Arthur said the police department has enough fuel to last for a very long time.

He accused Sergeant Dosu of being negligent, adding investigations will be carried out and the right punishment will be meted out to him (Sergeant Dosu).

Even though he admitted that they face fuel shortage once in a while, “currently, we have enough fuel and so I don’t know why he said that”

“It was negligence of duty; somebody did not do his work well and that is why he was blaming it on fuel. We have enough fuel to last for a long time and so it is not true that we have fuel problems. If it happens that we get fuel shortage, we stop giving fuel to office vehicles so that we can get enough fuel to perform our core mandate in terms of patrolling and others” he stated.
