Nurses and Midwives at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) have laid down their tools over an unfair allocation of accommodation by the management of the hospital.
The nurses and midwives embarked on the strike Thursday morning to press home their demand for a review of the accommodation policy instituted by management of the hospital which do not favour them.
The Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the TTH, Mr. Ahmed Fareed who confirmed the strike action when Graphiconline visited the hospital to ascertain the truth or otherwise of the matter said currently management of the hospital were in a meeting with the leadership of the striking workers to resolve the matter.
He said the strike action has not affected the essential areas of the hospital which included the accident and emergency, Labour ward, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the neonatal ICU.
A spokesperson for the striking workers, Baba Musah said they petitioned the management over the issue but as of now, they have not seen any action on their part hence their decision to embark on the strike action to press home their demand.
He said there was no fairness in the allocation of accommodation for nurses and midwives at the hospital, adding that accommodation places a lot of pressure on them in view of their meager salaries.
