PHOTOS: Adomi Bridge Under-reconstruction...To Be Ready By October

Drivers who ply the Adomi Bridge road will soon breathe a sigh of relief as the reconstruction work will soon be completed contractors have indicated.

Due to the rehabilitation, vehicles from Accra to Ho and vice-versa are using alternative routes by crossing the Volta Lake at Senchi to Old Akradi and continue to Juapong.

The project, which started on 10 March, 2014, is being funded by the Austrian government. It involves the replacement of the entire deck and all the hangers and ropes that support the 46-year-old bridge.

The cost of the rehabilitation is £12.9m.

PEACE FM correspondent, Naana Ntiri paid a visit to the project site and indicated that the contractors have almost completed their work.

Mr. Victor Nyantakyi Baah, Resident Engineer at the Ghana Highways Authority told Kwami Sefa Kayi on PEACE FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ that barring any unforeseen circumstances, the project will be completed by October.

So far we are on schedule and we are hoping that we will be able to finish the project on time. Expected date of completion is the end of October. The project will make the bridge stronger and last longer than the previous years. The rate at which the contractor is working, we are hoping to meet the deadline” he indicated.
