Minister Condemns Vandalism At Tuna SHS

Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Northern Regional Minister,  has condemned the  vandalism by students of Tuna Senior High School (SHS), which led to the destruction of the school’s computer laboratory,  amongst other properties.

Alhaji Limuna, who condemned the incident at the 15th Anniversary of New Life Preparatory School at Damongo over the weekend, warned that such unruly student behaviour would not be condoned,  and therefore urged the appropriate agencies to  ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.

On Thursday, February 12, some students of Tuna SHS in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Northern Region, went on rampage,  destroying school property,  to register their displeasure over a form of punishment meted out to a female student by a teacher.

The teacher reportedly ordered the female student to strip naked (which she obliged) for not dressing properly on the school’s premises.

Police personnel at Tuna have picked up some students believed to have masterminded the vandalism..

Alhaji Limuna said the decision by the students to vandalize the school’s property,  could not be the solution to the issue,  and asked that the perpetrators be dealt with to serve as a deterrent to others.

He emphasized the need for students to be disciplined to enable them to excel in their various fields of endeavour, to become responsible adults.

The Minister lauded efforts of the private sector to complement government in ensuring quality education for all,  adding that government would continue to create the needed environment for public-private partnership to thrive.

He said “Government is investing in the expansion and development of educational infrastructure throughout the country, by providing classroom blocks, laboratories, and teachers’ quarters,  amongst others,  to improve the  quality of education.”

Mr Ali Bakari Kassim, District Chief Executive for West Gonja,  sensitized the public on the Ebola disease and the National Sanitation exercise,  and urged all to maintain clean environments,  as well as partake in the national sanitation exercise.

Mr Kassim promised that the District Assembly would provide New Life Preparatory School with 200 mono-desks to augment its infrastructure,  to promote teaching and learning at the school.

The West Gonja District Director of Education, whose speech was read on his behalf, assured New Life Preparatory School of the support of the District Directorate of Education, and  commended it for helping to  make education accessible to all in the district and beyond.

Pastor David Gbulo, Proprietor of New Life Preparatory School, gave the  assurance that the school would continue to improve its performance to ensure quality education for pupils.

New Life Preparatory School was established at Damongo in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region in February 2000, with an initial six pupils,  but currently has a total of  754 pupils.
