Sunyani Municipality Is Ready For District Level Polls - Director

The Sunyani Municipality is set for the upcoming nationwide district level elections, slated for Tuesday, March 3.

Mr. Yaw Opoku, Sunyani Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) told the Ghana News Agency  in Sunyani that his office had received most of the electoral materials, saying that, only the ballot papers were yet to come.

Mr. Opoku assured the electorate that the elections would certainly be held on the scheduled date, adding that the training of the electoral officers who would be supervising the poling centres,  was still on course.

He disclosed  that out of 109 candidates, 11 females were contesting for 34 electoral areas within the Municipality, while 216 contestants, including 27 females, are also competing for the unit committee   positions.

Teachers form the highest number of candidates of 31, followed by farmers, 17,  while the rest are other categories of government employees, drivers, bankers and self-employed persons, Mr Opoku said.

He appealed to the general public to co-operate with the EC to ensure smooth and peaceful elections.

Mr Opoku  urged all to vote in their numbers, to elect their prospective assembly and unit committee members, to ensure development in their various areas.
