A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie,  a.k.a. Sir John, has lambasted the John Mahama administration over its handling of the power crisis facing the country. Describing President Mahama government as corrupt, and insensitive to the plight of ordinary Ghanaians, Sir John stressed that the power crisis was killing Ghanaians and destroying businesses.

By dancing to Daddy Lumba’s ‘Yen Tia Obia” music, Sir John said the President had demonstrated that he was not interested in the welfare of Ghanaians.

“Ghanians are dying needless deaths in hospitals and losing their jobs,” he said.

The former NPP General Secretary was speaking on Joy FM Thursday.

Providing an overview of the crisis, which is popularly referred to as ‘dumsor’, Sir John said the crisis would end if government bought crude oil to power Ghana’s thermal plants, which he said were lying idle.

According to him, the government, which he said has mismanaged the economy, does not have money to give to Volta River Authority (VRA) for crude oil purchase.

Sir John added that if the Mahama administration stopped “stealing” public funds, there would be money in the national coffers to end the power crisis.

But, according to him, with the 2016 election approaching, the government was not interested in taking its hands off the public purse.

”It is like their last supper; they know they are leaving in 2016,” he said.

Sir John, however, went on to add that President Mahama must fix the power crisis by hook or crook.

‘We don’t care how it is done, but it must be because Ghanaians are fed up,” he emphasised.
