Round Two Of The Ghana Rugby Club Championship Continues With More Excitement

The ongoing league games of the 2015/16 Ghana Rugby Club Championship games, came off on Saturday, February 14th with teams from Pool A taking centre stage. Three games were scheduled to kick off.

The first game of the day was between title chasers Legon Titans RFC and Dansoman Hurricanes. It was indeed a tough encounter. Both teams went all out displaying great strength throughout the game, but the Legon Titans attack proved stronger at the end of the game. They won the game by 19 points to 13 points.

Julius Amevor, coach of the side was elated about his teams performance having won two games in a row. " This win is really good for us because it will help us grow our confidence going into the next league encounters, but as usual, we are going back to the drawing board to iron out all kinks before our next game."

The final game of the day which proved tougher than the previous was between log leaders, Cosmos Buffaloes, and the defending champions, Idas RFC. The game commenced with neither teams willing to back down at any point in the game. Cosmos opened the scoring after a winger intercepted a ball meant for the full back of the Idas  and scored the try.

Idas RFC came back to score a try in the first half, but it wasn't after Cosmos were leading by a comfortable margin and were sure of winning the game.

With less than four minutes to end of proceedings, Idas RFC managed to turn the game around into their favour in the dying minutes of the match, by scoring a penalty and a try, winning the game narrowly by 13 points to Cosmos Buffaloes’ 12 points.

The coach of Cosmos Buffaloes, Amuzoloh Salim, said he was disappointed  at his teams first defeat of the season but he also understands that losing is part of the game. " It is unfortunate we lost today, but I am sure we will learn from our mistakes and improve on our game play. This clearly shows that all the teams have prepared adequately this time around."

Abdul Samad, coach of the Idas side could not hide his excitement at the turn of events. " I am excited that we beat Cosmos today. Its long overdue. Now we are going  to defend our title with all we have got."

The tournament  commissioner, Mr. Steve Noi, said he was elated at the turn of events and general performance. "Going into last game of the day, we were all expecting Cosmos Buffaloes to win because they have shown throughout the season that they are a force to recon with, but clearly Idas showed a 'never die' attitude coming from behind to win the game in the last minutes. I am really excited, because no team is going to be a walk over this season."

The third round of matches for the pool A of the Ghana Rugby Championship continues on Saturday, February 21st  2015 at the Accra Rugby pitch in University of Ghana, Legon.
