Three Institutions Affiliate With KNUST

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has signed a four-year renewable contract with three locally-based private universities for both institutional and programme affiliations.

The Heads of Kessben University College, Akim State College University and Ensign College of Public Health all signed the agreement documents together with the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor William Otoo Ellis, to signify understanding and commencement of business.

Ensign College of Public Health, a purely science-based university college, is set to run programmes leading to the award of a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, public health and business administration as well as a Master’s degree in public health.

As per the agreement signed, KNUST would appoint moderators and constitute a vetting team to monitor academic activities in the affiliated university colleges  in order to facilitate a successful takeoff, while making sure that the standards and image that KNUST had attained were not tarnished.

Two senior members each of the affiliated university colleges are expected to be part of a liaison committee that is to be set up by KNUST, with the mandate to maintain the unadulterated integrity of KNUST.

Prof. Ellis tasked the management of the affiliated universities to develop strategic plans leading to the attainment of an autonomous status in the near future.

He warned that a renewal of the contract would be contingent upon ways by which the universities would adhere strictly to the contents of the agreement.

The affiliation process began in 2013 and was consummated in Kumasi on Wednesday, February 11, 2015.

Thirty-six local and foreign universities are now affiliated to the KNUST.
