Ahafo-Ano South West MP Exonerated

An allegation of involvement of the Member of Parliament for Ahafo-Ano South West, Hon. Johnson Kwaku Adu in galamsey operations in the area, has been debunked by the District Police Commander, DSP Augustine K. Mensah. DSP Mensah said it is known that some people have hatched a plan to connect the MP to illegal mining in the area.

He told The Chronicle that he had not received any report or heard from anybody that the MP or the District Chief Executive is involved in galamsey operations in the area.  He explained that, it is rather the MP and the DCE who wished galamsey operations are halted in the area.

According to police commander, Hon. Adu has on so many occasions come to him to find a way of getting the illegal miners out from the district until the District Security Committee (DISEC) and National Security came in to seize some excavators recently.

DSP Mensah said the devastation of farmlands and water bodies in the area is alarming and questioned  why the same farmers who are complaining about the devastating effect of  galamsey, turn round and sell their lands to the illegal miners, without any agreement as to  acclamation of the lands.

Meanwhile, Hon. Adu has expressed surprise over allegation of his involvement in illegal mining and explained that there are people who are all out to destroy his political career.

According to him, he has been one of the people who joined the then Police Commander in the district to get the illegal miners out and that, he can say for sure that he, together with top officials in the area,  are not happy with the galamsey business since it destroys the environment.

Hon. Adu, however, assured that, he will work together with the Police Commander and the DCE to flush out illegal mining activities in the area.
