A solar project aimed at providing electricity to selected communities in the Adaklu, Ho West and Akatsi South districts of the Volta Region has been launched at Adaklu Dawanu.

The project is being undertaken with the objective of assisting schoolchildren to have access to light so they can study in the evenings, as well as to enable health centres to refrigerate their medicines to make them safe.

It is in partnership with ADANU, a Ghanaian non-governmental organisation (NGO), and another NGO, VIDA of the United States of America. The two organisations are working with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Adaklu Constituency, Mr Kwame Agbodza.

Solar project
Speaking at a ceremony to launch the project, the Founder and Executive Director of ADANU, Mr Richard Yinkah, said the installation of the solar equipment would soon begin in the communities that were to be served.

He urged the government to get involved in the solar energy project. He said when it did that it would encourage more solar companies to operate in the country and help to reduce the country’s over-reliance on hydro power.

Commendation
Mr Agbodza commended the NGO for the role it was playing to see the area develop.
He urged communities that would benefit from the project to take good care of the facilities when they were installed.

The MP for the Ho West Constituency, Mr Emmanuel Bedzrah, lauded the non-governmental organisations for the initiative and urged them to consider extending the plan to his constituency.
