Dozens Displaced In Keta Tidal Waves Disaster

Dozens have been displaced by tidal waves at Horve Havedzi at Keta in the Volta Region.

The waves started washing away a number of homes some few days ago.

Residents fear the situation could worsen.

Joy News' Volta Region correspondent Ivy Setordzie reported that tidal waves have been a problem to some communities in the Volta Region, especially Dzita, Horvi, Havedzi, and its environment.

According to her, the MCE for the area, Sylvester Tornyeavah was on official duties outside the region but has promised the residents government will come to their aid.

He said when he returns he together with the MP for the area, Richard Quarshiegah will see what they will do after the visit the affected areas.

The Assemblyman in the area is however calling on government to come to their aid.

"The seas is destroying houses along the coast, especially along the coast from Hovi to Denu," Assemblyman of the area, Wilberforce Gbetor-Sosah.

"My appeal to the government is to construct a sea defence wall to the protect the coast from the ravages of the waves".

He feared the waves may even take over the new Keta road which he said would have dire repercussions.
