I Want To Change Face Of Politics

An aspiring Assemblyman of Abirem in Akyem-Afosu in the Eastern region, Eric Oduro Marfo, has revealed that his intention to contest the upcoming District Assembly elections is to “change the face of politics” in his community and by extension the whole country.

According to him, the nature of politics in the country is an “eyesore “which should not be encouraged among the youth.

In an interview with Today over the weekend via telephone, the assembly man hopeful discounted the general perception that people only go into politics purposely to enrich themselves and their cronies.

“I want to help my people and the only possible way for me to this is to become part of decision-making so that I can influence policies in my community,” he said.

He revealed further that he was in the assembly elections race to help support the ongoing construction of market in his area.

He promised to mediate so that those who could not pay yearly advance for the shops in the said market would be allowed to pay a monthly rent.

Another priority of his people, he noted, was good roads.

To this end, he called on the electorate to vote for him so that he would lead the campaign for the deteriorating roads in the community to be rehabilitated.

“We need good roads and I believe I have the ability to lobby for our roads to be rehabilitated,” he indicated.

The aspiring assembly man expressed disquiet about the youth unemployment in his community.

He could not understand why residents of his community were not given employment by Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, a mining company in the region.

“In fact my first agenda is to make sure that Newmont Ghana Gold Limited reserves a certain quota of employment for my people as part of their social responsibility,” he hinted.
