Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Botswana, H.E. Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna Attah, MOV, has presented Letters of Credence to H.E. Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, President of the Republic of Botswana on Thursday, 19th February, 2015 in Gaborone.

A landlocked country located in Southern Africa, Botswana used to be the British protectorate of Bechuanaland. Botswana became independent on 30th September 1966 and is now acknowledged as one of the most stable countries in Africa.

About 70 percent of the country is the Kalahari Desert and with just over two million people, it is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, now boasting a per capita of about $16,400 per year. Diamonds, meat products and tourism are the mainstay of the economy.

An active member of the African Union, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Commonwealth, and the United Nations, Botswana is home to many Ghanaians, most of whom are engaged in business, trade, academia and other professions. Ghana’s Honorary Consul takes care of Ghanaian interests in Botswana.

President Ian Kharma is a son of the founding Prime Minister of the country, Sir Seretse Kharma. He won re-election last year.
