NPP Must Engage In Better Things

Mr. Samed Akalilu, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has charged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to engage itself in things that are beneficial to the country and the citizenry, instead of embarking upon “unnecessary demonstrations to serve their parochial and political interests.”

According to the Regional communication Director, the NPP is seeking to make political capital out of the temporary economic challenges facing the nation, as a means to come back to power in 2016.

He said the NPP is intentionally forming different political groups in order to make the government lose focus on its mandate of managing the economy, saying if the NPP and Nana Addo have anything positive to offer this country, this is the time they must bring ideas that will help salvage the nation from the economic hardship.

Commenting on the upcoming ‘YABRE ‘demonstration being spearheaded by the group called ‘Movement For Change’ (MFC) in Kumasi, Mr. Akalilu revealed that Dr. Nsiah-Asare, who is spearheading the demonstration is a NPP man and wondered why he was hiding behind the movement to express concerns.

According to him, no group of people or organization was above the rule of law in the country, and suggested that those who take the law into their hands at the expense of peace should be dealt with by the security agencies. Commenting on the performance of government in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Akalilu stressed that no government had performed better than President John Dramani Mahama’s administration in terms of the economic transformation and improvement.

He indicated that despite the complaint of MFC, Ashanti Region has five community based Senior High Schools out of the 50 being constructed nationwide, a 500-capacity bed military hospital is under construction at Afari in the Atwima Mwabiagya District.

Also the Ashanti Mampong water problem has been solved.  Mr. Akalilu debunked the claims by the NPP that the National Health Insurance is collapsing and said a visit to any NHIA office in the region indicated that scores of people were struggling in a queue to acquire Health Insurance cards.

“Why would people in the region rush for the cards if the cards  are not acceptable  in the health facilities”, the Communication director questioned  and added that it is time NPP does something meaningful than try to  score political points by throwing dust in the eyes of the  electorate in their  quest to win power.
