2,637 Vie For District Assembly Elections In ER

About 2,637 aspirants have filed to contest in the upcoming district assembly elections, slated for March 3, in the 819 electoral areas of the eligible 25 districts of the Eastern Region.

Information available to this paper indicates that out of the 26 district and municipal assemblies in the region, Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly will not participate in the polls since the assembly held elections in 2013 to elect assembly members. The statistics also indicate that a total of 4,819 aspirants—475 women and 4,344 men—shall also contest for unit committee positions.

Salormey Dodgey, the Regional EC boss, told the paper in an interview that all was set for the elections to take place, adding that the EC would collaborate with the police to maintain law and order across all the polling stations in the region.
