The Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) has called for a non-partisan roundtable conference to comprehensively review the nation’s educational policy.

It said the government must heed calls to change course to address head-on the challenges facing the education sector to achieve quality.

Dr. Nyarko Atta Mensah, the Regional Chairman, said the issue of inadequate funding and frequent changes of the schools’ curriculum needed to be tackled.

He also complained about the problems with teacher training and posting, lack of accurate data and coordination of information, as well as the placement of candidates in secondary and tertiary institutions.

He was speaking at the regional launch of this year’s Private Schools’ Week celebration in Kumasi.

The programme is being held under the theme, “A Call for Divine Policy Intervention in the Ghanaian Education”.

Dr. Mensah said it was their prayer that God would touch the hearts and minds of the policy makers to bring about the necessary changes to help produce the needed human capital to move the nation forward.

He emphasised that the private sector operators in education must be supported to expand their operations to make quality education accessible to every child.

The Reverend Kwesi Eshun Nunoo, Deputy Director in-charge of Supervision, Kumasi Metropolitan Directorate of Education, applauded the private schools for their valuable contribution to the growth and development of education.

He, reminded school proprietors who were yet to register their schools because it was in their own interest.
