It Would Be Irresponsible To Make Political Capital Out Osafo Marfos Opinion - Obiri Boahen

Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has expressed his opinion that what Osafo Marfo is purported to have said on the secret tape is not worse than what some NDC stalwarts have said publicly in the past.

According to the private legal practitioner, it is hypocritical for the NDC to condemn the supposed ethnocentric comment of Osafo Marfo in the secret tape and keep silent over what Fifi Kwetey said in the Wikileak that no Muslim can become a President of Ghana; adding “it is even dangerous than what Osafo Marfo has said in an enclosed meeting.

Speaking on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Obiri Boahen fumed that the NDC people who are making political capital out this secret tape are irresponsible; stressing that Osafo Marfo expressed his individual opinion and not as the position of the NPP.

“If it is true that Osafo Marfo said that, then I don’t agree with him on that because politically it is not true; historically it is not true and so in Ghana, everybody can be a President….so the fact that maybe Osafo Marfo said that which is wrong, does not mean it is the position of the NPP,” he stated.

“What Fifi Kwetey said that no Muslim can become a President in Ghana, can we say it is the position of the NDC? Can we also say that it is the position of the NDC when Togbe Afede in the Volta Region said in 2009 that the people of Volta Region were treated like aliens? What is worse than NDC MP on the floor of Parliament saying that people in the Volta Region will vote for a bad NDC government than to vote for a good NPP government? A year ago on the floor of Parliament, NDC MP in the Volta Region said Akans don’t help the NDC government except criticizing it but they benefit from the government; and what happened to that?, he quizzed.

He however urged the NDC Communicators and the pro-NDC newspapers to refrain from generalizing opinions expressed by people as such entrenched is the basis for inflaming ethnocentric sentiment in the country.
