Tribal politics has been a major issue for discussion over the past years in Ghana even though the two main political parties [NDC and NPP] always use that as artillery against each other.

Recently, Former Finance Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo has been cited for some tribal comments during an executive meeting with his party affiliates at Koforidua.

Even though Mr. Marfo has denied making such comment in a statement signed by his special assistant, the ruling NDC insisted he made that tribal comments after which a deputy communicator, Fred Agbenyo also opined that the NDC is capable of securing “secret recordings of Nana Addo’s bedroom meetings.”

However, in the recent NPP “Yabrԑ Demo” in Kumasi against the NDC-led government incompetence to resolve Ghana’s power crisis, some placards has emanated with tribal and offensive sayings to tarnish the Northern people of Ghana where President Mahama comes from.

Some kingpins of the ruling NDC started sharing pictures of the “tribal placards” on various social media accusing the NPP as “evil” and a “tribal party”.

The placards read; “We told you Northerners are not fit to rule this country”, How can a Northerner rule this country? Vote Mahama out and Mahama, why are you given the oil money to the Northerners.

But the National Youth Organizer of the NPP, Sammy Awuku has stated categorically that, the NPP never used such ethnic placards during their Kumasi demonstration.

According to him, their opponent [NDC] Photoshoped the placards to tag the NPP as a tribal party.

He however rained curses on whoever masterminded what he described as “ill-starred” in Ghana’s politics.

“There was no such placards during the demonstration. People can attest to that…the media was there and never captured such placards. So where is this coming from? We [NPP] summon those behind the tribal placards to God. They will be dealt with,” he fumed.
