Let Us All Get Involved In Assembly Elections-Minister

Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, the Eastern Regional Minister, has urged all Ghanaians to take part in the upcoming district level elections.

He said true development of Ghana depended on strong local government structures and grassroots participation and that the level of seriousness Ghanaians attached to the district assembly elections would determine the nation’s level of development.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Abirem as well as staff of the Birim North District Assembly at separate functions during his working visit to the district.

He said the government’s core function is to formulate policies geared towards development but without committed and strong district assemblies those policies could not be well implemented.

“This is why we need to go all out to be part of the exercise so that we get committed assembly members who would contribute in making the District Assemblies strong to drive the implementation of policies to bring the development we need in our communities,” he said.

The Regional Minister also appealed to all to join the National Sanitation Day exercise to ensure a clean Ghana.

He toured some development projects in the district including a landfill site constructed at a cost of GH¢ 1.3 million and funded by Newmont Golden Ridge Limited.

Mr Sekyere lauded the project and expressed appreciation to Newmont.
