Mr Murtala Mohammed, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, has re-affirmed government commitment to assist the private sector to expand their businesses since they are the engine of national development.

“Government alone cannot provide jobs for the teeming graduates that churn out of the universities every year and that the role of the private sector plays an important role in completing government to provide opportunities for the youth,” he added.

Mr Mohammed said this at a dinner ball organized by the Accra Friendship Club, a keep fit organization that supports charity works and the less privileged in society.

The club inaugurated new executives and honoured patrons who have contributed to the development of the organization.

He said government has come out with interventions to support private sector enterprises to widen the frontiers of their ventures as well as provide opportunities for youth employment.

“Government has expressed its unflinching support to partner private institutions to solve the current energy crisis which has engulfed the country to ease the frustrations and pains Ghanaians go through,” he said.

Mr Paa Gyimah Gyenfi, Chairman of the Club, said the ceremony was the 20th since its establishment to network among members and create synergies as well as chart the way forward.

The vision of the club is to become the most resourceful club in the country with the aim of contributing to societal growth.

Mr Gyenfi said the club as part of its charity works on February 23 donated assorted items worth Ghc15, 000 to the ‘eye of the lord’ orphanage at Nsawam Adoagyeri, Otoase in the Akuapem South District.

He commended members who contributed towards the donation and said the club would continue to sustain the gesture in providing relief items to the poor and needy.
