Government Must Convert Essipong Stadium Into Social Centre - Western Regional Sports Dev't Officer Suggests

Western Regional Sports Development Officer, Bredford Amui says it would be beneficial should the Essipong Stadium be converted to a playhouse following the limited revenue generated at the venue during League matches.

Bredford Amui believes the low income generation has made it difficult in the maintenance of the stadium.

The Essipong Stadium has been left in a poor state due to insufficient funds to maintain it since its construction in 2008.

The lack of funds has eventually led the Regional Sports Development Officer to suggest the venue be used for Social activities.

“We do not get enough money from football matches that are played at the Essipong Stadium so I would rather wish that the stadium is converted to a theatre where weddings, naming ceremonies and other entertainment events can be held in the facility,” he told Happy Fm.

“In fact when we rent the conference room for an event, we charge Ghc 600 and when we get two of such events in a week, we get Ghc1, 200”.

“However, when football matches are played at the stadium, we don’t even get Ghc 500 at the end of the day”.

The edifice which is yet to get any sort of face-lift was constructed prior to the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Ghana.
