These Bishops And Their Likes Must Put The Cassocks Down And Form Political Parties

The United Cadres’ Front (UCF) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is of the view that some of the ‘KNOW-IT-ALL’ clergy of our time should consider quitting the noble priest-hood vocation and become full-time politicians as they parade themselves of late.

We have had cause to react to highly indecorous utterances coming from some of them who are hiding behind their clerical engagements to play partisan politics.

Just last week-end the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Prof. Emmanuel Martey, in his latest hate-attack on President Mahama and his government on the energy crisis states “…If I were in charge, within three months I will solve the problem”. In addition to this he claims it is the President – being a politician who is building the religious/tribal tension in the country.

If indeed we have such a human resource ‘asset’, what prevents him from presenting himself to the President, requesting to be given the assignment to fix the ‘dumsor’ crisis? Is it because, as he said …”if I were in-charge…?” And because he is not the President he shelves his ‘talent’ at mitigating the problems?

This man thinks he is so smart when he said, “If there are any reporters …” when he knew that he had already invited the media to give him coverage at the Old Tafo Grace Congregation on his unfortunate vituperation.

Sometime back this same man yelled, “… Nyansa fuo yeei, mo wo he…? (men of knowledge, where are you). Suffice it to say that by inference he, himself, is not a man of knowledge and thinks that the current leadership of state equally lack knowledge. If he lacks knowledge, in what mental/academic capacity is he assessing the government as people with no wisdom to lead?

Beyond that this man threads further to tell a lie that the President, in the 58th anniversary address said Ghana is at war due to religious differences. When a man of his standing stoops that low to say what the President never said in his speech, how do we qualify him than a religio-political element who is doing the bidding of his political party leadership.

It is rather absurd that the persuasive mood in which the president delivered such a speech of unification which is supposed to be the work of the clergy and instead of praising him – we had such a rebuttal from somebody we are forced to call the moderator of a church.

One thing that needs to be urged is that members of the church ought to stand up to these politicians and tell them that the church is not a political rally platform which they can use to transmit their political messages. This ought to be the case because the ‘sermon’ under reference had no scriptural references. If there were – then they were indeed MISPLACED.

Just this weekend, the Methodist Bishop of Obuasi, who, sometime back told the Mahama government that 2016 is just at the corner, was at it again describing the President’s appointees as “NEOPHYTES”.

So many things have been said by these so-called vocal bishops who are so vulgar in their sermonic tantrums and the time has come for us to let them understand that whenever they use the pulpit of GOD to foment their political destabilization agenda, we shall see them as such and react in like manner.

It is high time these people who are bent on dislocating Ghana,  are told in the face to leave the sanctuary of the LORD, register or join their preferred political party – the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win elections. Ayensu and Martey equally ought to also, be told in plain language that the churches they lead are not politically registered and that it is not all their members who subscribe to their political calling which then dictates that they should not impose their political views and beliefs on them.

The two of them and others are gradually becoming a disgrace to the churches they lead and we urge their congregants to see their political under-currents and treat them as such and not reverends – let alone, most-reverends.

We urge such citizens to observe the Otumfuo Asantehene when he addressed the Ghana Journalists Association awards night last year. The Otumfuo carried the sentiments of every Tom, Dick and Harry in this country across the political divide with such royal decorous that is worth emulating. He took the concerns of Ghanaians and laid them before the President through that august gathering of the inky fraternity. He showed genuine concern but he was not intemperate as these people are doing.

This is how responsible non-partisan personalities and statesmen talk and not people who cover themselves with white robes when indeed they are of DARK hearts.

The UCF wish to remind these so-called men of God, that they did worst things in the 2012 electioneering campaign time in their churches but the members thought and saw through their evil intentions and voted President Mahama and the NDC to political leadership.

Let it be made clear here and now, that anybody or group of bodies who wish to incite the citizenry to use unconventional means in destabilizing this constitutionally elected government will be legitimately resisted.

We recall the NPP flag-bearer who, on the first anniversary rally of the Supreme Court ruling when he said the only way they can get the NDC out of power is of the thumb on December 7, 2016. Let us be guided by his admonition and if they are able to achieve that the NDC would graciously give way. The conventional way of climbing a coconut tree and down should be the best option in this regard.
