The flagbearer of United Front Party (UFP) in the 2012 general elections, Akwasi Addai popularly known as Odike has confirmed his newly formed political party will contest the 2016 presidential election.

Dubbed the United Progressive Party (UPP), Odike noted that his supporters maintained he is still capable of becoming Ghana’s president in future after being eliminated from the UFP some week ago.

The controversial presidential aspirant disclosed that his movement is not “anything new” in Ghana’s political circle after citing the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and other politicians.

Speaking to Kumasi based Hello FM on the morning show hosted King Edward, Akwasi Addai said that although his party has not been given a full recognition yet by the Electoral Commission [EC], he is still in the registration process.

According to the UPP founder, the party has an emblem of a “clock” which signifies “change”.

He explained that Ghana needs to change from its corruptible attitude.

Odike has however noted that, the yet to be outdoored party has some kingpins in Ghana politics as members although he failed to mention names.

The foundation of the United Progressive Party was as the results of a court decision that ordered Odike to refrain from partaking in United Front Party's activities due to the confusion that arose between him and another member of the party, Nana Agyenim Boateng (Gyataba) over who is the leader of the party.
