Kofi Wayo Storms Atta Akyeas Backyard

Altruistic Chuck Kofi Wayo was in full habit again recently when he responded to an invitation by a school which was originally supposed to have been responded to by the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea.

The teachers and pupils of Addo Nkwanta Primary School in the Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region were gifted with learning paraphernalia, including books and pencils, by Kofi Wayo, on the occasion of a harvest that the school had organized.

While such altruism is very typical of Kofi Wayo, the Enquirer learnt that on that occasion, MP Samuel Atta Akyea, and not Mr. Wayo, was the high profile personality expected to grace the school.

However, an invitation to the MP was turned down by Atta Akyea, leading to a vacuum that Kofi Wayo was constrained to fill when word reached him about the school’s predicament.

The harvest had been organized by the teachers of the school to raise funds for projects and the absentee Atta Kyea was expected to be ceremonial figurehead of the occasion for the school.

The MP’s absence was therefore very crucial.

Stepping in for Atta Akyea, Mr. Wayo gifted the school with First Aid Kits, in addition to the learning paraphernalia aforementioned. In addition, Wayo also donated an unspecified amount of money toward the purchase of 20 bags of cement for a building project for the school.

The headmaster of the school received the donations on behalf of the school children at the harvest grounds, which happened to be the school’s football field. To an elated student’s body, Kofi Wayo urged studiousness and hard work, reminding that the future belongs to none other than them, the kids.

Mr. Wayo also called for judicious use of resources and promised to bring the plight of the school to the attention of authorities. Located in Atta Akyea’s Constituency, Abuakwa South, Ado Nkwanta Primary school is typical picture of a village school with infrastructure deficiency.

The school is in dire need of classrooms and furniture.

On the prowl, Enquirer learnt that A tta Akyea, the MP, scarcely visits the constituency and so he is not even conversant with the infrastructural challenges of the entirely of the constituency, let alone that of the school.

His invitation to chair the school’s Harvest was aimed at letting him appreciate the infrastructure needs of the school at first hand, but he characteristically did not respond to the call, a frustrated constituent said.

Some angry resident of Ado Nkwanta also told The Enquirer that Atta Akyea has not been very committed to getting Government to finish a 7-kilometer road that links Addo Nkwanta Patase Ntaba, Adotowa Abisim, Bomponso and Subrisu.

Former Eastern Regional Minister, Victor Smith, is said to have leveled that road three years ago in readiness for tarring, but was changed before he could finish the project. Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea has since not been able to take the baton from Victor Smith, residents said.

Incidentally, Abuakwa South is the same constituency which was represented in the legislature by New Patriotic Party Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, for 12 years.
