I'd Consult My Predecessors - Sports Minister

Newly appointed Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed says he would consult with his predecessors for adequate transfer of knowledge and experience to guide him at the Ministry.

Dr. Ahmed who until his latest appointment was a Minister of State at the Presidency also hinted that he would run an all inclusive ministry that would inure to the benefit of all sporting activities in Ghana.

In his first interview after the appointment, the 59 year old Medical Doctor who takes over from Mahama Ayariga, said "one needs to tread cautiously... And if one does proper consultation he would avoid pitfalls."

Dr. Ahmed who also happens to be a retired Major (Rtd. Maj) from the Ghana Armed Forces was answering questions on Accra based Joy Fm when he was asked whether he's decision to consult his predecessors would not be detrimental to his success..... And he said "I guess it's even better that way because what you describe as land mines could well serve as experience or warning signals for a new person who is now going to the place.

"Because these are people who have treaded these places, they can be helpful and you need to tread cautiously. I believe all these experiences would guide my actions and decisions and with proposer consultation, one would avoid pitfalls."

Youth & Sports Minister under NDC:

He becomes the third Youth and Sports Minister under the Mahama administration after the removal of Elvis Afriyie Ankrah (under him there was the Brazil debacle) and Mahama Ayariga ( he had some confrontations with journalist after Afcon 2015).

In all, there have been about 7 Ministers who have handled the Youth and Sports Ministry's portfolio under the NDC government. They include Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, Akua Sena Dansoa, Rashida Pelpuo, Kofi Humado all making the list at one point in time.

There is believed to be a 'mafia' at the Sports Ministry who sometimes sabotage ministers who are appointed to oversee government business at the ministry. The so called mafia is yet to be discovered.
