Human beings are born solitary, but everywhere they are in numbers, even in church, social actions are makeshift forms, often courageous, sometimes ridiculous and always strange.
In prayer to God, or in the prayer of God - or, in the oratory of God, often one would want to be at a noiseless environment to communicate with the maker, thus God without any sinful doings.
Luke 6:12, the King James Version (KJV) tells us that “and it came to pass in those days that He [Jesus] went out into a ‘mountain’ to pray and continued all night in prayer to God”.
Fortunately for Ghanaians, similar Prayer Mountain purposely for prayers, meditation and fasting is made for the nation but has been turned into a sanctuary for “SEX” instead of its purpose.
The Atwea Mountain, as it is famously called, has since grown to become one of the most famous praying mountains in Ghana and Africa at large. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people go up the mountain each year.
The practice of building such a facility is probably rooted in religious monasticism and its monasteries, where entering monks renounces worldly connections to devote themselves solely to spiritual learning and development.
But Peacefmonline.com investigations has exposed that the pious place is now a dogging grounds for some worshipers who patronize the place daily.
Peace FM'S Eastern egional correspondent and investigator, Michael Akrofi described the Atwea Mountains located in the newly-created Sekyere Central district in the Ashanti Region of Ghana as a motel than a prayer camp.
The Atwea township is surrounded by three huge mountains. The other two mountains apart from the Atwea Mountain are the Adenkyirewi and Krobo. The Atwea township is located inside the loop of the three mountains and in the ancient times it served as a protection for the locals against invaders.
According to him, caretakers of the place complained to him bitterly that, used condoms are always seen early morning at the camp, thus, sex activities goes on overnight among some prayer warriors who can’t control their sexual libido.
“Used condoms are not balloons for decorations at the place,” Akrofi quoted a custodian, named withheld.
Nonetheless, owners of the place are forced to set a task force to monitor activities and patrons so as to maintain the mountains as sanctum as well-known for.
