KKD Must Be Jailed If Found Guilty Maurice Ampaw

Private Legal practitioner, Dr. Maurice Ampaw has said, ace broadcaster, Kwesi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD must face the law to serve as a deterrent to others.

According to him, pardoning the beleaguered entertainer will rather pave way for other celebrity “rapists” knowing very well that they will be forgiven for their actions.

He noted that, after admitting to having consensual sex with his victim which the lady claims to be rape, KKD must be investigated and jailed if possible.

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw said this on OKAY FM’s "Ade Akye Ebia" morning show when other popular showbiz personalities suggested that, KKD must be pardoned by the state for the unfortunate act since he has “suffered”.

The controversial lawyer however lamented that “If KKD has suffered…then I think all prisoners in Ghana, criminals and rapists have suffered enough to be freed. This is not logic...the lady is the one who has suffered”.

…If KKD really raped the girl, then he must face the law, after he can ask for forgiveness. If he is innocent too, then the world must know so the lady [his victim] will be exposed. No one should beg for him [KKD]…no one should show sympathy on him for now. People can only plead on his behalf when he is to face his sentence. Maybe that can reduce his number of years in prison,” he added.

KKD heads to the Accra Fast Track High Court on Wednesday to face trial over his alleged rape of a 19-year-old girl at the African Reageant hotel in Accra.

This follows the earlier decision of the Kaneshie Magistrate Court on February 19, 2015, to commit him to stand trial at the High Court.

The remorseful stylist cum broadcaster in a statement signed on January 13, 2015, asked the public to forgive him for the ridicule and disgrace he had caused his family and that of the victim.

He blamed his shortcoming on what he described as “fleeting pleasure of the flesh” and acknowledged that he had sinned and prayed for God’s forgiveness.
