A leading member of the NPP and a medical doctor based in the US, Arthur Kobina Kennedy, has criticised the government and the Attorney-General's department over their handling of the GHC51.2 judgement debt scandal involving Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome.

He has also stated that former President J.A. Kufour should not have awarded himself a medal in 2008.

Describing the development as stunning, Dr Kennedy said, although President Kufuour deserved a medal, it should not have come from him.

He made the statement on Facebook in a post titled ‘Conflict of Interest’, which was informed by a press statement issued by former Attorney General (A-G) Martin Amidu, to the effect that the current A-G, Mrs Marietta Brew Appiah-Opong, did not qualify to try Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome because of vested interest.

Dr Kennedy, who expressed agreement with Mr Amidu’s position, said the A-G’s “defiant response to Martin Amidu's concerns show how blinded she and the government are”.

“The truth is that given her previous role as an attorney and/or that of her law firm, she was never in a position to vigorously represent Ghana in this case,” he added.

He went on to criticise President John Mahama, who, according to Dr Kennedy, showed up for a meeting with Merchant bank for discussions on a loan secured his brother.
