Hours after his death, some Ghanaians are calling for Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father and first prime minister of Singapore who transformed that tiny island outpost into one of the wealthiest and least corrupt countries in Asia, kind of person to pilot Ghana.

Aside Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, many are of a view that, subsequent head of states have done little to see Ghana’s development so as to compete with other developing countries.

In recent times, Ghanaians have accused all past presidents including incumbent John Dramani Mahama as corrupt leaders who don’t have Ghana at heart.

Since 1957, Ghana’s economy still remain stagnant whiles the country joyfully boast of collapsed industries established by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah which couldn’t be maintained by the state.

Gaining their freedom from the British in 1965, Singapore’s founding father, Lee Kuan Yew has highly transformed the small island with developed market economy, based historically on extended entrepôt trade.

The Singaporean economy now is known as one of the freest, most innovative, most competitive, and most business-friendly.

The 2013 Index of Economic Freedom ranks Singapore as the second freest economy in the world, behind Hong Kong.

According to the Corruption Perceptions Index, Singapore is consistently ranked as one of the least corrupt countries in the world, along with New Zealand and the Scandinavian countries.

However, whiles the world mourns the 91-year-old “Lord” of Singapore, some Ghanaians now wants a Lee Kuan Yew’s kind of president for Ghana in future.

The awareness creation dubbed “Ghana Needs Lee Kuan Yew” is been spread via stickers and has gone viral on various social media with notable Ghanaians having them on their vehicles.

This is believe to mount pressure on President John Dramani to with immediate effect address issues concerning Ghana’s ailing economy and as well as resolve the country erratic power supply [Dumsor Dumsor] so to at least make a mark that indeed Ghana can have a Lee Kuan Yew kind of person as president in recent times.
