Total Replacement Of Voters Register Will Be Waste of State Resources

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito has stated that it will be a waste of state funds to replace the voters register.

His comment follows calls demanding that the Electoral Commission replace the Voters register to ensure transparency in the country's electoral process.

Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on PEACE FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Gen Mosquito asked those calling for the replacement to provide evidence in a form of a better technology that could deal with the shortcomings of the biometric register.

“The arguments are based on wrong information and assumptions. It is wrong for anybody to call for a total replacement of the register only two years after its compilation...this is not to say that the register is perfect. But we went for the biometric technology fully conscious of its limitations...a new capture of the register will make sense if there is a new and improved technology that will help us determine the ages of applicants for registration...It is waste of time and resources…at this point that is the best register we can have" he said.
