Allotey Campaigns For Mahama 2016

Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Benjamin Allotey Jacobs, has stated the Central region has no option but to vote massively for President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the upcoming 2016 General Elections.

According to him, the region has received unprecedented level of development during the era of President Mahama and must therefore reciprocate by voting for him to continue the good work he was doing.

He said President Mahama is the only President since the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s era who has invested heavily in the region even though he is not from the region.

He said this during a press soiree by the NDC Communication team in the region at the weekend in Cape Coast.

Mr. Jacobs mentioned the on-going Kotokuraba market complex, the Kasoa Interchange, the Essarkyir Water Project, Komenda Sugar Factory, Elmina Fish Processing Plant and bridge, Cape Coast Sports Stadium among other projects worth millions of dollars which are currently ongoing under the presidency of President Mahama.

He stated that such a leader is what the region needed to be able to achieve its past glory as the colonial capital of the country.

“We are so resolute to change the course of the Central region as a government in power,” he said.

He explained that the NDC has not been media friendly in the past and after realising the important role of the media decided to organise the soiree to establish that relationship with the media since according to him” you are our partners in development”.

He further stated that the new NDC regional executives upon realising the role the media played for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to come to power have decided to tow that line since whatever the government does cannot be heard or seen until the media carries it across.

Mr. Jacobs took the opportunity to advise the media to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to cause unnecessary tension in the country.

“Sometimes you tune in to some stations and channel and you realise that some stations in their zeal to outwit others bring on board panelists to vilify others on air and this is totally unacceptable,” he said.

“I always wish those of you in the region can carbon copy Kwame Sefa Kayi because I see him to be shining example for all journalists in the country. I love it when he tries to put me and others in order when we try to go our own way on air,” he said.

He indicated that we are building a democracy and it was incumbent on the media to act and work professionally to protect that young democratic achievement.

The chairman pledged his party’s commitment to open up to the media and work hand in hand with them for the development of the region.
