(Video) Some Of Our MPs Are "Disutilities" And "Noise Makers" - Atik Mohammed

A decision by the National Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party to take huge sums of monies from potential aspirants who would be contesting sitting party MPs, has been described as “unfair” by a Political Analyst.

Towards the organization of the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Primary Elections, the National Executive Committee has decided that each parliamentary aspirant coming from orphan constituencies would pay a filing fee of GHC 10.000.

Aside this, the same executive body has decided that each parliamentary aspirant in constituencies with sitting NPP Member of Parliament would also pay a filing fee of GHC10.000 plus Development fee of GHC20.000.

Mr. Atik Mohammmed, a member of the People’s National Convention believes it is discriminatory on the part of the NPP executives to take GHC10,000 plus a development fee of GHC20,000 from fresh entrants who would want to be future parliamentarians.

Speaking on United Television (Utv), Mr. Atik Mohammed noted that the NPP will not be promoting healthy competition if it should go ahead and charge that amount of money from fresh entrants.

According to him, the party executives should at least give the new candidates a chance to bring something different to the House of parliament. In his view, some Member of Parliaments were only in the House to make noise and not worthy to be there.

Although he refused to mention any name, he described such MPs as “disutilities” and added that “they only go to parliament to make noise and when they get tired, they go home”.
