NPP Is A Listening Party; NEC Will Go Back On The Issue Immediately- Freddie Blay

First Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Hon. Freddie Blay has assured his aggrieved party members to go back over the affirmative action and other decisions taken by the National Executive Committee.

According to him, the intention to make Ga indigenes to contest the Ga Constituencies was to wipe out the wrong perception being held by people that NPP is an Akan party which does not consider other tribes for a position in the party.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the former first deputy speaker of Parliament indicated that the NEC decision was based on a meeting the NPP Chairman of Greater Accra Region had with Ga Traditional rulers and some opinion leaders, saying they want to get more involve and support NPP.

He again gave a reason for the decision saying that the Ga indigenes in NPP are a bit outnumbered by the immigrants who are in NPP and so their inclusion in the Parliamentary Primaries will attract more votes for NPP if the Ga indigenes represent NPP in Parliament as they may identify themselves with NPP more.

“…..as much as possible we should encourage our winnable Ga candidate to contest to become MPs for our party; which was a good idea from the Ga Traditional rulers and opinion leaders considering the perception that sometimes people try to make it look that NPP is an Akan Party although I thought the perception is wrong, people believe in it and so we should do more to wipe it out”, he narrated.

He however pinpointed that although people have made it look like the Ga Constituencies are no go areas; it is not what the decision was meant to be as rather meant to encourage NPP winnable Ga indigenes to contest the Parliamentary Primaries.

In conclusion, Hon. Freddie Blay assured there will be consultations all over to address the decision, indicating that NPP is a listening party that will sit down quickly over the protest and petition of the party members to resolve it.

“There will be consultations all over as when people are protesting as I have heard some people went on demonstration and even petitioned our Presidential Candidate and even went to Parliament though I thought it was getting a little too much; this is a listening party….let’s quickly sit down and see what to do and I believe it was on that basis that some of leaders met yesterday to know what to do or what step to take at the moment”, he assured.
