I Never Described Buhari As Sick, Old Man - Sampson Ahi

Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works & Housing, Samson Ahi, has denied ever describing General Muhammadu Buhari, main opposition candidate in Nigeria’s election, as ‘a sick’, 'old man,’ who was going to lose the just ended March 28 general elections.

The Wednesday March 18, 2015 edition of the New Statesman carried a story, sourced from moderghana.com, and credited to TEIN-Sefwi-Wiawso, which attributed the comment to the deputy minister.

According to the story, Mr. Sampson Ahi was speaking to students of Sefwi-Wiawso College of Education.

But in a sharp protest on PeaceFM's Midday News Wednesday, the deputy minister described the story as a complete fabrication, calculated by create “disaffection and needless trouble” for him. He thus challenged anyone including the principal, teachers and students at the college with evidence to the contrary to come forward.

In fact, I was very surprised when I read the story because I had never gone to the Sefwi-Wiawso College of Education for any programme, neither had I made that comment even in a chat with anybody,” he protested.

He added: “I am a deputy minister in Ghana. What do I gain from making comments about elections in Nigeria and who the people there should vote for? I am also a simple, modest politician who will never make an issue out the age or health of any other politician. I simply believe in issue-based politics and what can be done to improve the welfare of the people who voted us into office to serve them.”
