Pretty-faced Zuleika, wife of former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, aka Asabee, will this morning be dragged before an Accra High Court to respond to charges of allegedly assaulting and obstructing a security officer from performing his duty. This is an apparent fulfillment of a threat from government that Zuleika would be prosecuted for not allowing her husband�s passport to be seized by some National Security operatives who reportedly refused to identify themselves or explain why they wanted to confiscate the passport. Government Spokespersons have alleged that Zuleika, who was by then carrying her year-and-a-half-year-old baby, severely assaulted the male National Security agent to pulp, and that government takes a strong view of her alleged misconduct. Daily Guide has gathered that the accused wife of the politician is scheduled to appear at 9.00am today at the Cocoa Affairs Court in Accra, and reports suggest the venue would be crowded by scores of people who would want to catch a glimpse of her and show solidarity.Mr. Asamoah-Boateng and a number of opposition politicians are also reported to be lacing their boots to storm the courtyard today. Zuleika was traveling outside the country with her husband and two kids, aged a year-and-a-half, and four, when they were ambushed at the Kotoka International Airport by persons who claimed they were agents from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and physically prevented the family from boarding a British Airways flight. The agents claimed Asabee could not travel because he was to report to the BNI the next day. They seized his passport and those of his family and he was neither told the reason for the invitation nor shown any arrest warrant. An audio recording of the incident available to Daily Guide captured Zuleika complaining to an official of British Airways at the airport and insisting that she did not know the said BNI agents and she could not trust them since they were refusing to disclose their identity cards to anyone. �These are a group of people I do not know from nowhere near Adam and yet they want to worry us. See them talking about law; what law? How do we know you are not working on your own accord and imagination since you are hiding your ID cards? Cowards! �Why seize my passport; what have I done? And if you think my only crime is that I married a politician, then so be it. Look at this shameful attitude you are displaying in front of children. �If you people have come and you cannot travel, you think nobody has a right to get out of the country? You do not even know how to go anywhere. What is that? Where is the documentation of your invitation from whomever? Show me your invitation and where you are from. He would not go anywhere,� Zuleika charged. The incident sparked an argument between Zuleika and the BNI agents and she eventually snatched her husband�s passport from them and kept it on a part of her body where no sane man would dare remove. The issue of Zuleika being dragged to court comes at a time a number of politicians from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and past government officials are being ordered to report to National Security for interrogation. Former Foreign Minister, Akwasi Osei-Adjei, who responded to one of such invitations, had his passport seized by National Security operatives for no stated reason. Other political invitees were all denied their constitutional right to legal counsel during the said interrogation sessions. They were made to understand that the invitation could not be turned down and their requests to have their right to a legal advisor were also rejected.
