The suspects, Kamal Mohammed, 27, and Abdul Razak, 20, according to the police, were released from the Nsawam Prisons after being convicted of robbery, through the Justice for All Programme.

 

They were said to have attacked their victim, a 31-year-old teacher, in front of her house at Lapaz Petroleum, after taking her child to school.

 

But for the timely intervention of the police, a mob including young men in the area and taxi drivers would have lynched the suspects.

 

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Tesano Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Francis Aboagye Nyarko, said the police received a distress call at about 2:45 p.m. last Tuesday that two armed robbers had attacked a woman at Lapaz Petroleum.

 

He said when the victim returned to her house after sending her child to school, the two suspects, who were on an unregistered motorbike, suddenly approached her and ordered her to surrender her car.

 

Mr Nyarko said the suspects forced the woman out of her car and locked her in one of the rooms in her house.

 

Luckily, he said, a sister of the victim who was in the house with their landlady started shouting for help.

 

A taxi driver who heard the cry of the ladies gave the suspected robbers, who had abandoned their motorbike and were driving the car away, a hot chase.

 

The taxi driver managed to draw the attention of some residents in the area to the incident and they managed to apprehend the suspects.

 

Mr Nyarko said the mob pounced on the suspects and beat them up mercilessly, but a police patrol team arrived on time to rescue them.

 

He said one of the suspects, Razak, who was injured was quickly taken to the Police Hospital, in Accra, where he was treated and discharged.

 

He said the police also retrieved the car and a pistol from the suspects while the abandoned motorcycle was also found near the victim’s house.

 

The unregistered motorbike had a label “Real Nima Boys” boldly displayed on it.

 

The suspects, he said, were currently in police custody pending further investigations.
