Mr Carlos Ahenkorah, Chief Executive Officer of Carlo King Freight Logistics, on Tuesday picked a nomination form to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Tema West parliamentary primaries.
Mr Ahenkorah, a former President of the Ghana Freight Forwarders Association (GIFF), was the first to pick the nomination form to contest the constituency seat since the opening of nomination on March 30.
He was accompanied by Mr William Azure Sampana, former Tema west Constituency chairman, and other delegates clad in his customized tee-shirt, singing and dancing to brass band music.
He was handed over the nomination form by Mr Edmund Asare Mantey, NPP Tema West Constituency Chairman after he presented a banker’s draft with a 1,000 cedis face value being the cost of the form.
Mr Ahenkorah told the media that when elected the parliamentary candidate and subsequently the Member of Parliament for the constituency, he would use his position to influence policy-making, especially for the maritime industry. He added that it was his vision to also bridge the cracks among the delegates in the constituency, and foster unity to ensure the party won more votes both in the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2016.
According to him, his win would give Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the party’s flag bearer, reliable and trustworthy people he could work with when elected as president.
On the issue of the aborted plans of the party’s decision to allow only women to contest seats occupied by females, he said even though he believed in affirmative action, the timing was wrong.
He indicated that he knew that policy would not hold, and thanked his followers, whom he said, were the first to protest at the party head office against the decision.
He called on delegates to massively vote for him as he has contributed more to the party since he joined in 1997, debunking the assertion that he was not known in the party.
Mr Ahenkorah gave the assurance that he had leadership qualities that would ensure that former executive members and defected members were brought back to serve the party.
He indicated that when voted for on June 13, to be the parliamentary candidate, he would include Madam Irene Naa Torshie Addo, the current MP, in his team to prove that the election was just a contest.
