TOR Assures Of More Fuel

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has given the assurance that the country will continue to enjoy uninterrupted flow of fuel without any shortage. The Public Relations Manager of TOR, Ms. Aba Lokko, told the Daily Graphic that the involvement of private companies such as Chase Petroleum and Cirrus Energy in the importation to refined products had ensured adequate stocks to cater for the countrys needs. Ms. Lokko, who spoke to the Daily Graphic on the fringes of a meeting of the Association of African Refiners, said the private companies had excellent storage facilities and always had fuel in stock to release to the public in the unlikely event of TOR failing to meet public demand. The meeting, attended by 45 heads of laboratories of oil refineries in 10 African countries, is to discuss issues regarding quality, safety and security at the various laboratories and high standards of petroleum products on African markets. It was sponsored by TOR, Cirrus Energy and Chase Petroleum.Opening the meeting earlier, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, said the issue of adulteration, contamination and, most importantly, loss of revenue to the state through those practices were the challenges that confronted the country, and urged heads of laboratories with whose connivance the practices were carried out to desist from it. He called for a new breed of professionals as Africa stove to improve fuel quality for its people, leading to better health for both the people and the environment. He said quality control laboratories were at the heart of the refinerys operations, and added that if all organizations approached quality with an open mind and dedication, success would be possible. Dr. Donkor said inclusion of renewable energy sources in the countrys energy mix was an area of great concern to the government, and probed Africans to explore bio-fuels as the advanced countries had done.
