Lawyer Philip Addison who is contesting in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, in the Korle Klottey constituency in Accra, has accused his constituency chairman, Nii Noi Nortey of stabbing him in the back after earlier supporting his parliamentary ambitions.

The constituency chairman has resigned to also contest in the upcoming primaries. 

Philip Addison told Citi FM that his chairman made the u-turn after endorsing him. 

“I consider it unfortunate that it should be so especially having discussed with him at the onset of the declaration of my candidature and he having indicated to me his full support but I see that he persist so we have to go for the contest. I had a meeting with him which he gave his full support to me. Indeed he followed it up with a funeral we had in constituency for one of our oldmen and he organised it and led me there and I was introduced as the person who was coming there as the candidate. Subsequent to that I started hearing that he himself was going for the seat but I had a meeting with him and he declared his full support for me,” he told Citi FM.

Reacting to the accusations, Nii Noi Nortey denied the claims made by his opponent and described the comments as “untrue”. 

“I am not happy with what he said because it is never true that I introduced him as an incoming MP at a funeral because I respect the constitution and structures of our party. How can I introduce someone as an incoming parliamentary candidate when he is not even gone for primaries,” he stated. 

He added that as constituency chairman he couldn’t have supported the bid of one candidate. 

Nii Noi Nortey urged party members not to make statements that will harm the party after the primaries.
