The threat to lay down tools by public sector doctors is creating fear and panic in the country, according to Deputy Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Baba Jamal.
He indicated that government has been proactive in addressing the concerns raised by the doctors thus such threat “does not help and it's not in good faith”.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA), said the threat was necessitated among other things by the poor service conditions in the health sector.
They insist the absence of a collective bargaining agreement for the group is a violation of the labour law.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Baba Jamal bemoaned the lack of faith being exhibited by the doctors.
He noted that a committee working on the concerns raised by the GMA will conclude its work by end of April.
The Deputy Employment Minister said government is committed to ensuring health service workers have better conditions of service.
Baba Jamal urged the doctors to have faith in the Mahama-led administration so as to arrive at an amicable solution to the issue.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of GMA, Ishmael Yankson said the treat is just a reminder for government to fulfill its promise.
He explained that their motive is not to make the Mahama-led administration unpopular but to get what is rightfully theirs.
Dr. Yankson added that until the final document is signed and implemented, the June ultimatum will be in force.
