Mr Justice Joe Appiah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North, has picked nomination forms, to contest the primaries as a parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) slated for June 13.
This is the third time Mr. Appiah will be seeking the mandate of his constituents to represent them in Parliament.
He first won the parliamentary seat of the area in 2008, garnering 45,175 votes as against 30, 024 obtained by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate and then again in 2012 with 53, 115 ballots compared to 34,534 obtained by the NDC candidate.
Speaking to the media after picking the forms, Mr. Appiah said he decided to contest again because he had an “unfinished business “ in Ablekuma North.
Explaining further, he said building an ultra-modern 60-bed capacity hospital and a community centre for the constituency, is a dream he wants to fulfil before he hopefully bows out of Parliament in the very near future.
According to the MP, his biggest problem is with land, and appealed to chiefs in the constituency to assist him.
Giving a tall list of his achievements since becoming a legislator, Mr. Appiah mentioned the construction of a nine-inch U drain at Otaten near the Hindu Monastery at Odorkor, a six-inch U drain, and the re-graveling of the road near Mother Mary, all at Odorkor.
Others are the construction of a storm drain at Kwashiebu, another one and resealing of access roads at Darkuman East and West, and the construction of concrete slabs at Addy Junction at Odorkor Official Town.
The rest have been the re-graveling and sealing of the Kofi Owusu Street and a storm bridge at Sakaman.
On education, Mr. Appiah mentioned the construction of a modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory at Odorkor Four and Five Cluster of Schools, the construction of a kindergarten, and the renovation of the McCarthy School at Awoshie, the demolition of a wooden structure and the construction of a six –unit classroom block at Odorkor Four and Five Cluster of Schools.
He said he had also distributed about 2,000 dual desks, as well as textbooks to schools in the constituency, and facilitated scholarships to about 20 students through the Scholarship Secretariat.
The MP also mentioned the sponsoring of holiday and extra classes periodically for final-year Junior High School (JHS) students, the payment of school fees for some needy pupils and students across the constituency, the distribution of about 500 sewing machines to some vulnerable people, the donation of cement to the Kwashieman Chief’s palace, and the donation and fixing of aluminium glazed windows at Darkuman West Mosque, as some of the social interventions he has undertaken.
To improve security, the MP said he had installed a lot of street lights across the length and breadth of the constituency and had plans to encourage the formation of neighbourhood watchdog committees to pre-empt crime in the constituency.
Presenting the forms earlier to the MP, Mr. George Nkrumah, the Constituency Chairman, demanded from all aspirants decent campaign, devoid of insults, lies and character assassination, reminding them that they all belonged to the same family.
