IMF Bailout Is Not The Panacea To Our Economic Problems - Kwesi Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt believes the IMF extension of credit to Ghana will just be a drop in the ocean in resolving the country's problems.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Mr. Pratt was of a strong view that the deal will not bring about the much needed economic relief to the nation.

To him, the deal might even result in the layoff of thousands of workers in the country.

According to Mr. Pratt, it is about time the Government of Ghana began managing its own affairs and human resources.

In his conviction, the credit facility from IMF is not the panacea to the economic crises confronting Ghanaians.

He alluded to the some interventions by certain international entities and agencies which later turned out to be pure exploitation of Ghana's natural resources, particularly Gold.

He therefore believed the loan given to Ghana could have been generated internally.

For as long as we remain on this path. For as long as we keep going to the IMF and World Bank for small [small] bailouts, we won’t reach anywhere. We will remain at one point. It won’t help us…IMF program; it is not the solution to the problem," he wondered.
